Our funding:

We find it very significant that our opening coincided with the Presidential mandate which would force all Americans to have health insurance or pay hefty fines. It requires virtually all private health plans nationwide to provide coverage of sterilization and contraception—including abortifacient drugs.

Because of our commitment to uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church without exception, we receive no government funding. This new ruling confirms us in this choice. In our avoidance of governmental funds, we also feel that we are voicing an opposition which is supporting life and the dignity of every person.

Our Work:

We had our 1st Birthday!! Ever since opening Northern Kentucky’s first free clinic for uninsured individuals who are not homeless on January 24, 2012, we have called it “God’s Clinic” because He provides everything we need.

For example, when we were preparing to begin our women’s wellness, Sheila Carroll thought to herself, “We don’t have any gowns to do the exams, how could we start without them?” The next day, sitting next to her desk was a box filled with exam gowns!

Smoking Cessation classes

Many people desire to quit, but often lack motivation and support. The health risk to this population and cost in early death and chronic illness is astronomical. One of our friends achieved 100% class attendance. He needs your prayers to maintain a smoke free life style.

In addition to tobacco cessation class, the Health Ministry of the Rose Garden Mission has plans in the near future for group diabetic education, nutrition, child development classes, parenting skills, and hypertension management. Please pray for us as the ministry develops.

The Friends of the Rose Garden Mission are dedicated to the right to life from conception until natural death for all people and to improving the quality of life of the less fortunate in the Northern KY, Greater Cincinnati area, showing the love of Jesus while providing a haven of hope and free non-judgmental assistance by supporting the apostolic works of the Franciscan Daughters of Mary, maintaining the property which houses the Rose Garden Home Mission and their Center for Hope and Healing.

As far as Marvin Mukes is concerned, the uninsured can’t put a price tag on the healthcare provided at the Rose Garden Center for Hope and Healing. “If you could give (the clinic) stars, it wouldn’t be five stars. I’d give them 10,” he said. “I will get my insurance card soon, but I’d like to stay here.”

Marvin Mukes is a patient who was terrified when doctors in-formed him a few months ago that he had diabetes. “I cried,” admits the 54-year-old husband, father and grandfather who lives in Newport. “I don’t have insurance. I didn’t want to die.” Although Mr. Mukes was used to suffering from an unhealthy heart, several of his relatives had died from diabetic complications. One relative had a leg amputated. “I knew something was wrong with me one day at church,” Mr. Mukes said. “I stood up to talk and when I sat back down, I couldn’t see the pastor’s face. The minister was standing right in front of me, but he was blurry. I told my significant other (Barbara) I needed to get to the emergency room.”

Barbara drove Mr. Mukes to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Ft. Thomas, where he was told his blood glucose level was extremely high. Doctors prescribed Insulin and medicine to control his blood sugar level. The unemployed man worried how he would be able to afford the medicine and the price of monitoring his blood glucose level. “

A woman named Cathy Sherron, RN (Mission volunteer and Nurse Navigator for St. Elizabeth Healthcare Regional Diabetes Center) made me promise before I was dismissed from the hospital to come to the Rose Garden Center for Hope and Healing.

Mukes said. “I kept my promise.” “I don’t want to leave this place, even when I get my insurance card. I told the nurse practitioner here to give me a call and I’ll be down to take out the trash or anything,” said Mr. Mukes. Becom-ing very emotional, “I didn’t know people could care like this for people.,” he says, wiping the tears as they flow down his face. “I love this place.”

We always are able to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit on Health Screening Tuesdays. We see our Mission friends and neighbors primarily to check blood pressure and finger-stick glucose.

Since our beginning October 27, 2009, we have helped over 450 individuals, many of whom come regularly for health care advice…and for toilet paper - everyone we see has a choice of taking home toilet paper or a pair of socks./p>

However, we really do more than that. Many Tuesdays the Spirit of God is so present in the Health Ministry Consultation Room, that it is almost palpable in the air. At those times, from one to five health care professionals are engaged with new friends who are in physical, medical or spiritual need.

Our one-on-one policy conveys the dignified caring love and attention we have for each person. They recognize it as a unique touch from God just for them.
